Jetlag = early...early = gorgeous!!

I have now been in Cha-Am, Thailand for a grand total of 3-ish days. Two of those days I've already spent in class...party :)
Stories though:
First morning in Cha-Am, Monday morning, I had been so tired the night before that I couldn't stay up any later than 10:30pm. I fought off sleep as long as possible going with two German girls (Webster students) to the night market to search out food, have my watch fixed (successfully haggled the price down ;) but then quickly crashed as soon as I got back to my room. Being the Kelsey Hughes that you all know however, this early bedtime meant that I was awake at 4am with no chance what-so-ever of going back to sleep. Rats. I fought valiantly to be sleepy for the next two hours, but at 6:15, with the sun just beginning to tint the horizon with pink, I gave up the struggle and put on running clothes and walked out the back entrance onto the beach for a run....

Morning of the second day.... An impromptu pool BBQ the night before led my new friend Chii (from Zimbabwe) and I to utilize the worst of our jetlag and turn it into an running (and we really meant jogging) opportunity. Wake up, breath in the cool morning sea air, splash through waves and watch as the sun breaks through the haze on the horizon. Nothing better right? So call us crazy if we had to wake up at 6:30 to make it happen.
After pounding down the coast a ways in my hiking-friendly Montrails, I decided to chuck my shoes in favor of bare feet through waves as Chii was doing. When a failed, but exhilarating game of "beat the tide" resulted in my left shoe dripping salty goodness, there was no doubt. I dropped my shoes back at VIP (my place of residence) and off we went, me feeling light as a feather...

There is a thin space between jagged shells and sand more water than substance.
Here the ground underfoot offers both resistance and traction.
Here our footsteps disappear even as they are made.
Here is the line we tread.

Playing tag with the waves has already become a favorite of mine.
Next best thing to puddle jumping :)
Because with waves the water plays with you!

My friend Chii. Looking out over the sea at the sunrise.

There are dozens of these along the shoreline.

Standing in awe. Literally. I didn't know Chii was taking this foto.
